About
Papaya Insights is an independent technology research consultancy founded in 2002. It is led by Paul Ridgewell, with support from expert associates who bring specific domain expertise.
Paul is a research analyst and former technology sector equity analyst with extensive experience delivering commissioned research across AI, cybersecurity, emerging technology and financial services. He has worked with UK government clients including the Home Office, the law enforcement community, DSIT and Ofcom, and with commercial clients across the technology and financial services sectors.
Papaya has been appointed as a Research Partner to the Accelerated Capability Environment (ACE), a Home Office capability within the Homeland Security Group, enabling it to provide ongoing research expertise to the UK government.
Papaya also delivers bespoke research projects for commercial clients, including thought leadership reports, market assessments, competitive analysis and expert advisory work. Commercial clients have included Digital Catapult, Fitch Solutions, GlobalData Technology and the Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF). Papaya Insights is Cyber Essentials certified and registered on the JOSCAR supplier accreditation register.

Papaya can design, manage and deliver a wide range of research projects, from short desk-research notes through to complex programmes utilising multiple methodologies and involving interviews with hard-to-reach subject matter experts.
Government and public sector research
In recent years, Papaya has delivered major research projects on behalf of HMG departments including the Home Office, Border Security Command, DSIT and law enforcement agencies, covering topics including AI, cybersecurity, cybercrime, deepfakes, messaging fraud and internet architecture. It has also delivered research for Ofcom in preparation for the Online Safety Act, focusing on the regulation of harmful content online. Additionally, Papaya produces AI Crime Insights, a monthly horizon-scanning newsletter covering developments that could either aid criminal activities or mitigate the risks of AI-enabled crime, distributed to a government and law enforcement audience.
